Su Pietra - Giuseppe Caccavale

curated by Antonella Spano

The need to create a deep energy connection between himself and the space carries out Giuseppe Caccavale to choose a cave included in the complex of Masseria Torre Coccaro, as source of inspiration and scenario for the setting up of three site specific works realized after one week of residency.

The fascination of the place and of mysterious presences that live it, which is a direct exstention of the daily experience between the Mediterranean landscape and environment of Savelletri, is translated in the attempt to find a way to give back the light to the cave excavated in the rock, with the respect of the natural balance of the penumbra.

Thus Caccavale sets three walls-screens hold by the living stone, studying carefully the details of the architectonical construction realized through the setting of the three paintings which surprise the eyes and the mind of the visitors, using the light as the “fourth wall”, the one that leads the audience in an inner and coral trip at the same time, between the light that claims the watching and the dark that denies it.

Giuseppe Caccavale births on 1960 at Afragola (Naples). His artistic research is characterized by the coherence of an haughty and diehard route. When he draws, paints or carves, the artist plays with the values of the language and the relations among its elements, in order to get thin variations, reveal secrets, perceive and analyse in silence the time that goes on. His works are included in many private collections, in public and private spaces of Europe.
